Toothpic Nations — Magento Asian Stationery Store
A Magento store for the quirkiest products from Asia
Toothpic Nations is a UK shop selling quirky stationery and gift items sourced from Japan and across Asia. Rebecca came to open-ecommerce.org with a clear concept: a shop that felt genuinely different from the typical UK retailer, built on a robust ecommerce platform but with a homepage that changed with the seasons and an editorial approach to promoting products.
The concept grew from Rebecca's personal passion for Japanese design — the precision, wit, and craft that goes into Japanese stationery. She wanted a platform that could communicate that sensibility to UK customers while still being straightforward to manage and browse.
What We Built
The project combined a solid Magento foundation with custom front-end work to achieve the seasonal, editorial character Rebecca had in mind:
- Responsive Magento store with a clean, minimalist theme that let the products do the talking — avoiding the visual noise of a typical ecommerce template in favour of a curated feel
- Seasonal interactive homepage designed to change with each season, promoting selected products and categories in a way that felt fresh throughout the year
- Custom homepage templates giving Rebecca the ability to update the seasonal layout and feature different products without editing code — manageable through the Magento admin
- Product catalogue structured for Japanese and Asian stationery and gift items, with category and product pages designed around the minimalist aesthetic
- CMS training covering product management, category updates, homepage configuration, and order processing
Frequently Asked Questions
- Can Magento support a seasonal or changing homepage?
Yes. Magento CMS blocks and custom page templates can be updated by the client without touching code — enabling seasonal layouts, rotating promotions, and featured product changes throughout the year.
- Is Magento suitable for a small niche ecommerce shop?
Yes. Magento works well for niche retailers with a focused catalogue. The flexible product management, layered navigation, and promotions engine suit specialist shops as well as large stores.
- Can I manage a Magento store myself?
Yes. CMS training is included in every project. Clients update their own catalogue, homepage, and orders without needing a developer for day-to-day changes.
