From brochure site to transactional booking platform

Letthemtalk started in Paris as a brochure site for an English conversation school run by Gideon. Over time, the site evolved into a transactional platform — letting students browse available classes, purchase credits, book sessions, and manage their account online. We worked with Gideon through that evolution: first building a clean Joomla site, then extending it with VirtueMart ecommerce and a custom credit system that matched the way Letthemtalk actually sold and delivered its classes.

The Challenge

A language school that sells individual class sessions has a business model that generic ecommerce software does not cover well out of the box. Letthemtalk did not sell products with inventory — they sold time, in the form of class credits that students could use flexibly across different sessions. The system needed to handle credit purchase via PayPal, credit tracking per student account, booking by session, and schedule management by the admin team, all without a developer on call for day-to-day operations.

The platform also had to be straightforward for students — many of them were learning English precisely because it was not their first language, so every step of the booking flow needed to be clear and reliable.

What We Built

We built a Joomla platform with VirtueMart ecommerce and a custom credit layer on top:

• VirtueMart ecommerce configured for class credit sales — credit packages as purchasable products, with PayPal as the payment gateway
• Custom credit system — virtual currency that students purchase in bulk and spend per class booking, tracked against their account
• Student account area covering credit balance, booking history, and session management
• Course schedule pages managed by Gideon's team through the Joomla admin without developer involvement
• Booking workflow connecting a student's credit balance to their ability to reserve and cancel specific class sessions
• Theme built to the Letthemtalk brand, extended and refined as the platform grew over time
• Admin workflow for credit management and booking oversight, designed so the team could operate daily without technical support
